Personal Info
My goal is to assist clients in their efforts to break generational curses and realities that have defined them in their childhood or adulthood without their consent. As a student of psychology, social work, African/Black history and world studies, I have learned to take integrative approach to assist clients in developing the insight, self-awareness, coping skills, self-confidence, self-discovery, self-compassion and practical strategies that they need to establish time-oriented, realistic S.M.A.R.T. goals that they can reach. What I bring to the table is not only the IVY League education that I have, but more importantly my personal experience as a Black Male from the inner city of Chicago. While working for the Department of Homeless Services, Preventive Services, and Rikers Island, I have had the had the opportunity to assist people within the 5 boroughs of City New York that were dealing with sexual exploration, drug addiction, domestic violence, suicidal ideations, the loss of a loved one, abject poverty, homelessness, anxiety, depression, anger management, PTSD, childhood trauma, the criminal justice system, schizophrenia, mood disorder, etc. In my private practice, I hope to change the stigma associated with therapy in our community by creating a safe, comfortable, non-judgmental space, that people can utilize to unpack their life experiences/change their narrative without fear of their privacy being compromised as they become more resilient. I take a holistic approach in collaborating with my clients for the best possible outcome. The therapeutic modalities that I use to assist people in their effort to change their self-perception i.e., repetitive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors consists of but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychoeducation, Narrative Therapy (NT), Mindfulness, Progressive Muscle Relaxation, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT),Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) etc.
